A Complete Guide to the Interactive Wands at the Ministry of Magic
From the new "Generation 2" wands with haptic feedback to a walkthrough of every secret spell, this is your expert guide to making magic at Epic Universe.
ORLANDO, FL – For years, casting spells with an interactive wand has been a cornerstone of the Wizarding World experience at Universal parks. With the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe, that experience has received its most significant upgrade yet. A new generation of wands and a host of more intricate, surprising spell locations have arrived, making the act of making magic more immersive than ever.
Whether you're a seasoned spell-caster or a first-time wizard, this is your complete, and now fully accurate, guide to understanding the new wands and finding every single interactive spell hidden within the magical, 1920s Parisian streets of the new land.
The Next Generation of Magic: Gen 1 vs. Gen 2 Wands
The first thing to know is that the Ministry of Magic has introduced what fans are calling "Generation 2" interactive wands. While they look similar to the original wands found in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, these new wands contain upgraded technology that creates a more satisfying and immersive experience. When you cast a spell correctly, the new wands provide haptic feedback (a gentle vibration) and the tip of the wand lights up, providing immediate confirmation that your magic is working.
These new wands come at a premium, costing around $85. However, they are fully backwards compatible, meaning they will work at all the older spell locations in the other two parks. Likewise, your original "Gen 1" interactive wand will still work at all the new spell locations in the Ministry of Magic; you just won't experience the new haptic and lighting effects, and you may be locked out of one exclusive spell.
A Tour of the New Spell Locations
Here is a location-by-location guide to the new spells you can perform.
1. Lumos at Les Bijous De Jacqueline: Located on your left after entering the land, this easy spell lets you interact with a Niffler. When you cast "Lumos," magical sounds play and your wand tip glows. Inside the jewelry store window, you’ll hear the chattering of the Niffler as it jingles the shiny baubles it’s holding.
2. Incendio at Monsieur Sanfins: On your right as you enter, you can cast the fire-making spell at this shop window to magically light your way.
3. Titillando at Les Lumères Maroquinerie: An easy but delightful spell. Casting the Tickling Charm at the chandelier in this window causes the Niffler hiding within it to get tickled, forcing it to drop the gold coins it was hoarding.
4. Locomotor at Les Instruments Larusso: This medium-to-hard spell is a two-part musical challenge. A successful cast at the first spot activates one instrument. You must then continue to perform the spell at other instruments in the window to bring the whole band into the performance, one by one.
5. Revelio at Bar Moonshine: In the "Pumpkin Juice" window of this establishment, this easy spell reveals a hidden creature. A Demiguise will gradually appear out of thin air, then slowly fade from view, with only the soft glow of its eyes lingering for a moment.
6. Accio at Fountaine de la Rue Malabête: A fun and surprising spell next to the entrance of the land's main ride. Casting "Accio" causes water from the fountain to spray out towards you—prepare for a light splash! As the water sprays, a hidden Grindylow briefly emerges from its hiding spot.
7. Lumos Maxima at Chez Cosmé: This spell allows you to create a powerful light, illuminating the dark corners of this store window with a magical brilliance.
8. Revelio at Pharmacie Branchiflore: Located across from the Cosme Acajor Baguettes Magique shop, this spell lives up to its name by magically revealing concealed objects within the pharmacy's window display.
9. Ventus at Le Serpent Volant: A medium-to-hard spell across from Bar Moonshine. A correct wand motion will shoot a powerful, spiraling gust of wind into the display window.
10. Descendo at Les Valises Maroquinerie: This medium-difficulty spell is a magical game of speed. Casting "Descendo" causes all the suitcases in the display to spring open. You must then use your wand to magically close them one by one as a timer counts down. If you succeed in time, the middle suitcase will pop open one last time, revealing a mischievous Niffler inside.
11. Rennervate at the shop of Mauricio Meurice, Tailleur: On Rue Furstemberg, this easy spell brings a pair of tailored pants in the tailor's window to life. They will begin to wiggle and move on their own, accompanied by the whirring sound of a sewing machine magically coming to life.
12. Specialis Revelio at Chez Flamel: This medium-to-hard spell is a two-part sequence. The first spell, "Specialis Revelio," reveals the legendary Sorcerer’s Stone. The second spell, "Aberto," magically opens the chest that contains it.
New Magical Interactions
The Mystery Spell at Libraire Magillard: In a first for the Wizarding World, this location offers a challenging, sequence-based spell that is exclusive to second-generation wand holders. Guests are tasked with completing a series of spells correctly before a timer runs out to unlock a special magical effect.
The Talking Portraits: For the first time ever, guests can use their magic to directly interact with enchanted, talking portraits. Located in the courtyard of Le Gobelet Noir, within the windows of Quartier de Nicolas Flamel, three different portraits will respond to spells and engage directly with guests, asking them to perform various charms like Incendio, Colovaria (The Colour-Changing Charm), and Tarantallegra (The Dancing Jinx).
